10 Things Tuesday: Spread the Awesome

A lot of people view a new year as a new start, but as I mentioned in my last post I’m planning to keep going with my self-improvement plans. I don’t want to start over every year. However, the New Year is a good time to measure your progress toward your goals and potentially set new ones. One thing that I’m consistently trying to do is be more positive.

A positive attitude doesn’t mean ignoring bad things that happen or failure. To me, being positive means that I learn from those things and grow because of them. Being positive can sometimes be hard, but if you’re around a positive person, do you notice that it makes you want to be positive too?

That’s one of the reasons I love taking part in the 10 Awesome Things Link Up, because it’s a great way to be positive.

It’s pretty cold and snowy here right now, so let’s talk about some of the awesome things about January and winter in general:

1. Returning to a normal routine after an erratic holiday schedule

2. My new satellite radio subscription (a Christmas present from Brad)

3. Seat heaters

4. Displaying vintage pins on my coat

5.  Cozy sweaters and scarves Continue reading

Awesome Holidays

To be perfectly honest, I was feeling a little grinchy after having to postpone my decorating two additional days (due to traveling) and then shooing the cats away from the Christmas tree yet again. (Apparently Old Time Potter sells the tastiest trees.)

I figured I would take this month’s Awesome Link Up as an opportunity to identify everything that I think is awesome about the holidays.

1. Twinkling Christmas lights

2. Sparkly and shimmery holiday outfits

3. My husband’s work party this weekend at the beautiful downtown Arcade (again) Continue reading

June Reads

Happy July Friends!

I’m a little behind on my extracurricular because… well live first, blog second. I was the happy recipient of a Sunshine Blog Award and have not forgotten what that entails! I also owe someone a guest blog… but I did read/see some great stuff in June, so here’s a brief list.

What’s Hot in Wearable Technology.

I’ve ranted a bit about the size issues of wearable technology, but I’m still intrigued by what is and will eventually be out there. Google Glass has been a lot of fun so far to play with and has come in handy for more than a few things, such as a very steady video of my mother’s wedding.

This article is interesting to me because I can’t immerse myself completely in tech blogs since I don’t speak that language (gasp!) and I don’t really get into all of the details when it comes to resolution, memory, software and speed comparisons – but don’t worry I’ve got a guy for that. I liked this blog post because it was written by a communication pro… that’s a language I understand! SCiO in particular intrigues me… get nutrition information from scanning food? That’s pretty cool. Continue reading

10 Things. 10 Thoughts

I’m doing the 10 Things on Tuesday…err… thing again!

1. Yesterday, I replied to an email that didn’t require a response for the sole reason that the sender spelled my first name as “Rachael” when the email was in reply to my email and my name was right there in front of him as he typed. I have a long and complicated last name and I had a long and complicated maiden name… so I get it when those are misspelled, but of all my names, “Rachel” is so incredibly easy not to screw up. Don’t worry, I didn’t reply to correct him, just so that I could sign my name on the email correctly.

2. I like this picture. (Is that conceited because the picture is of me?)

3. Do you write down recipes that you make up even when they’re really simple? I whipped up a really easy dish and Brad insisted that I write it down in order to make it again. Continue reading

10 Things

Crystal over at Straight On Till Morning does these 10 Things on Tuesday posts… kind of like my Friday Fives but on steroids. Her first link up today is excellent timing because I’m all sorts of scattered and I can’t really craft full, coherent posts right now.

1. I feel guilty for long lapses in blogging. A few days may not seem like a long lapse but to me it is. That’s part of why I wanted to post today, even though I didn’t have time to finish my intended post (our trip to Niagara Falls).

2. I’d like it to rain for a little bit one evening this week. A couple of weeks ago when we had a ton of rain, tornadoes and flooding, I was inspired to do a refashion related to rain gear. Now it’s been clear and beautiful after work so I’m unable to take the after photos that I want.

3. Saying, “I got your message, but I was on the phone with Sweden,” sounds like a lie, but it’s the truth. The internet is truly amazing.

4.

The thing Watson is clutching with his crazy eyes… that’s me. Trying to work in our dining room. He wedged himself in the chair behind me then awkwardly hugged me, then promptly decided he needed a better grip and did not want to let go. Continue reading
