Spare A Rose and February Awesome

SquareTagSpare A Rose. Save A Child.

February and I have a love/hate relationship. It’s cold, icy and there are piles of snow. But on the other hand, February was the month that my wonderful husband was born, Valentine’s Day and a time when members of the Diabetes Online Community (DOC) band together to help children with diabetes through the #SpareARose campaign.

I have access to insulin, something that no one can live without. For those of us with Type 1 diabetes, our bodies don’t make it for us anymore. But there are many who do not have access to insulin, hence this campaign.

If you buy your sweetheart roses for Valentine’s Day (or if you don’t) consider buying 11 instead of 12 and donate one flower’s cost to Life for a Child, a wonderful organization that helps provide insulin and supplies to children with diabetes in need. This campaign started February 1st and runs through Valentine’s Day (February 14th for anyone who needs the reminder).

For approximately the cost of one rose, you can provide a month’s worth of insulin for a child in need. The 2014 campaign raised enough money to provide 1 year of life for 454 children. Please consider donating and sharing this message. Go here to donate.

Brad Takes the Reins (and Talks About Me)

I’m back to participating in the Blogger Men Tell All link up. I love having Brad contribute to the blog occasionally, and 5 questions are sufficient to get some input before he gets bored with it.

1. What is your favorite memory with your blogger?

It’s not really a fair question to ask for my favorite memory together. Every moment we’re together is my favorite… next question ūüôā

2. What is her best quality?

Her patience. Dealing with me can be like dealing with a 7 and 70 year old within a five minute time span. One minute I may be whining about wanting dinner and the next minute I may be complaining about the kids in our front lawn. She’s always there for me and patient even though I can be very trying on patience.

3. What is something the two of you enjoy doing together? Continue reading

Why is the cat wet? {Friday Five}

I feel like Brad and I have a lot of conversations that start with the question:

Why is the cat wet?

I feel like in the realm of domesticated animals, cats shouldn’t be wet nearly as often as ours are… and it’s only one at a time.

Every query has a different answer.

(1.) For example, the cat was wet because he knocked over the water bowl and we needed to clean up to floor. (2.) Another time, the cat was wet because he got stuck in the bath tub and figured his way out of it for the first time. Continue reading

10 Things Tuesday: Spread the Awesome

A lot of people view a new year as a new start, but as I mentioned in my last post I’m planning to keep going with my self-improvement plans. I don’t want to start over every year. However, the New Year is a good time to measure your progress toward your goals and potentially set new ones. One thing that I’m consistently trying to do is be more positive.

A positive attitude doesn’t mean ignoring bad things that happen or failure. To me, being positive means that I learn from those things and grow because of them. Being positive can sometimes be hard, but if you’re around a positive person, do you notice that it makes you want to be positive too?

That’s one of the reasons I love taking part in the 10 Awesome Things Link Up, because it’s a great way to be positive.

It’s pretty cold and snowy here right now, so let’s talk about some of the awesome things about January and winter in general:

1. Returning to a normal routine after an erratic holiday schedule

2. My new satellite radio subscription (a Christmas present from Brad)

3. Seat heaters

4. Displaying vintage pins on my coat

5.  Cozy sweaters and scarves Continue reading

Awesome Holidays

To be perfectly honest, I was feeling a little grinchy after having to postpone my decorating two additional days (due to traveling) and then shooing the cats away from the Christmas tree yet again. (Apparently Old Time Potter sells the tastiest trees.)

I figured I would take this month’s Awesome Link Up as an opportunity to identify everything that I think is awesome about the holidays.

1. Twinkling Christmas lights

2. Sparkly and shimmery holiday outfits

3. My husband’s work party this weekend at the beautiful downtown Arcade (again) Continue reading
