Go to the Doctor!

Seriously, it could save your life.

It’s the time of year when everyone seems to come down with something. And now I’ve started to see tweets and Facebook statuses about long-term illnesses that are being passed over as annoying.

It freaks me out to see people say things like:

  • “Day eight of feeling like death.”

  • “Two weeks and the migraine is still here.”
  • “Haven’t been able to swallow in 4 days.”

I’m not a doctor, this is not medical advice. This is a recommendation from experience, frustration and caring about my friends and family.

After two weeks of insatiable thirst and seven days of extreme stomach pain, vomiting and wondering if I might be pregnant,  it took my husband basically ordering me to go to the doctor. I was then hospitalized with life-threatening DKA (did you miss this post?).

Go to the doctor. Now. I’m not saying you have a life threatening condition if you’ve been sick for a week, but getting treatment is good. Regardless of what’s wrong with you if it doesn’t go away within an reasonable amount of time, see the doctor, follow his/her instruction and get better.

Another pet peeve: if you’re hacking and coughing, sniffling and sneezing ALL the time. Stay home from work in the interest of public health, no one else wants to get sick. Brad scores sick days starting next month and we’re praying he doesn’t get sick now because his coworkers are working while ill… not cool.
