The Facebook Birthday Snub
It’s amazing how emotional social media birthdays can be. I just recently had a birthday and the sheer number of people who wished me a happy birthday was amazing. I was even shocked that so many people I hadn’t seen in a long time wished me a happy birthday.
But then there were those people. The people who live their lives on Facebook, the people I see and interact with daily… and the people who didn’t wish me a happy birthday. And it’s pretty upsetting.
Why would the lack of a 2 word message on my Facebook wall upset me?
Please allow me to share my amateur analysis…
– Facebook tells you it’s my birthday
– Facebook tells you that a lot of our friends have wished me a happy birthday
– I talk to you on a regular basis and I wished you a happy birthday
– You spend 75% of your life on Facebook
These factors make me believe that you would realize it’s my birthday and care enough to drop a little message on my wall.
I wonder how many friendships get strained by the lack of birthday wishes.
