A Lovely Weekend Wrap Up

I think it’s partially due to being in the thick of winter, but I feel tired all the time. My body believes I should be hibernating! The weather people seem to have constant trouble getting it right as well. Today’s low was supposed to be 22 degrees. When I woke up this morning my phone said -4 and now it’s a whole 9 degrees. Ugh! My weather app is sick of it too, it went on strike the other night and refused to show a temperature.

Anyway, cold and snowy Monday aside, we had a lovely Valentine’s Day weekend.

When Brad and I got home from work we cooked a delicious Valentine’s dinner together. Our menu included:

  • Filet mignon
  • Roasted asparagus (recipe here)
  • Potato rounds
  • Red wine
  • Oreo truffles

Every Valentine’s Day we end up talking about what our meal would cost at a restaurant with a few hundred of “our closest” friends dining around us and decide again that we’re very happy with our tradition!

My mom and her fiance came over and we headed over to the Great Big Home and Garden show at the IX Center.

I had won tickets to the show, but they only provided me with half the tickets I was told would be there, so we’re sorting that out still. In this day, I am not a fan of providing tickets at a “will call” window because those people aren’t that nice. Just email the electronic tickets or send me a coupon code for the tickets I won and skip the window all together.

Anyway, the show was pretty cool. We made a beeline for the idea house when we got there and walked through. It’s pretty cool that they build a whole house in the middle of the convention center. They usher you through a cuing system through the house, which I understand but it didn’t provide a great way to see the kitchen of the house and my mom and I wanted to see some more with the kitchen and be able to actually look at the pantry instead of looking at it from afar.

The Idea Home Kitchen/Living Room

The idea “basement” was pretty neat. They had lighting around the ceiling that glowed different colors. We were invited to stay for the home theater demonstration that included a projector and 120-inch screen. Brad looked at that specs and goes, “Eh, we can move on. We have a 120-inch screen in our living room.” Which made me wonder, would any of your be interested on the details of our home theater system? Information like specs, equipment and installation? If so, let me know and I’ll write one.

There was a cool cabin set up too and I loved the Scrabble decor touches it had (Scrabble pillows, Scrabble tile mugs, actual Scrabble game and tiles in a glass jar). We actually have fond memories of playing Super Scrabble at the cabin on Mt. Rainier in Washington. Continue reading

The Auto Show, a Birthday Tradition

My husband is officially older than me for the next week and a half. We had a whirlwind couple of days in celebration.

On Friday, we unexpectedly received tickets to the Cleveland Auto Show preview night. So we got some Mexican food and margaritas (Did you know Friday was National Margarita Day?) with our friends before heading to the IX Center. We had a good time checking out the cars and I got to do the Jeep Experience.

Here’s Brad’s video from the 2012 Jeep Experience (it didn’t change much… just the years of the vehicles)

I also rode the IX Center Ferris wheel for the first (and last) time. The view of the airport at night is pretty cool, but the gondola-style seating freaked me out. We were up very high and there aren’t seat belts!

On Saturday (Brad’s actual birthday) the guys went back to the auto show to do the ride and drive events. They got to drive a Cadillac CTS-V, which was the main event as far as the guys were concerned. That evening we introduced my in-laws to the Great Lakes Brewing Company and their amazing food (and beer, but that’s a given).

We capped off a wonderful evening with birthday cheesecake.

When given my Pinterest board of recipes last year, Brad decided that he’d like the Bailey’s Irish Cream Cheesecake. This year he requested it again and I’ve gotten the recipe tweaked to where I like it finally!
