Throwback Thursday: Meet Sally

Last August I got Sally. She’s my dress form and she’s got great style…

She’s been a great addition to my refashioning, and if I you sew and ever have the opportunity to get such a steal on one of these, definitely do it!

There are tutorials for DIY dress forms on the internet that look great! I tried the Duct Tape Dress form and it turned into a disaster. Let me know if you’ve successfully made your own dress form!

Dress to Date Night Top

I bought this dress on a super clearance from Target, in all honesty I needed to spend just a few dollars more for free shipping or something and I liked the print.

I wore this once as a dress over the winter with tights, boots and a sweater. I felt a little awkward, it came to a “midi” length on me which isn’t my best length option and felt just a bit too busy. I decided to change it up that day.

I really liked the soft jersey material and the cowl neck, so I literally just chopped it off a few inches below the belt loops. I’ve now worn it several times to work with dress pants or with jeans. Last Friday, I wore it with jeans and my favorite green flats. After work Brad and I headed out for a date night. Continue reading

Dressing for Success. Part 2

When I started working at the car dealership, I was handed a dress code and was required to sign my agreement to follow it. No jeans, no shirts with words, no cleavage, no belly showing, no facial piercings or visible tattoos, no tank tops, etc. This dress code was easy to follow because it flat out said: look professional.

My husband and I now both work in agencies and never received guidelines like a dress code. As young adults, we have plenty of fashion options available to us, so we take visual cues from those around us. There are people in our offices who wear jeans daily. In fact when I interned at another agency, I wore jeans most days because everyone else did.
