Weekend Wrap Up: 5th Anniversary Edition

Over the weekend, Brad and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary. This year was actually a milestone.

We were unusually home on our anniversary and it was a Saturday. So, we had a nice relaxing day, then went out to a nice dinner at Strip in Avon. Strip is a cool steakhouse in an old barn.

Our dinner was delicious. I started with a spinach salad, and Brad had a cherry bomb salad. Then we had steaks, I ordered a filet and Brad ordered the Jake’s steak. Both were cooked exactly as ordered and were fantastic. We split macaroni and cheese. I’d recommend it.

Then we came home for dessert. We cracked open a bottle of mini champagne and toasted over a cake from Johnnie’s bakery, the place that made our amazing wedding cake five years ago.

Sure, this anniversary was pretty low key, but it was special. I decided to wear my wedding shoes and jewelry with a basic black dress and carry the vintage pearl purse that Brad’s great grandmother gave me to use for the wedding. I figured the dress and veil would be overkill but the occasion deserved a special outfit.

Vintage clutch purses aren’t made to hold a bunch of diabetes gear, but I made it work.

Breaking our no-gifts tradition, Brad got me a 5th anniversary present in the traditional theme of wood. A willow tree figurine for our home.

The rest of the long weekend we spent either grilling with friends or working outside on our new landscaping.

How was your weekend? What did you do for your last anniversary?

  1. Congratulations, Sheryl and I are celebrating our 39’th anniversary on June 3. Which makes Sheryl 24,, in my eyes she will always be 24.

Because I know your friends will be interested, I referred your blog to the TUDiabetes blog page for the week of May 30, 2016.

  2. What a lovely non-D post. My husband and I also have the willow tree couple. I love your idea of wearing your wedding shoes & using the vintage clutch, plus the cake from the same place that made your wedding cake. Such lovely little throwbacks to your wedding day.
