Tater Tots on Lake Erie

“There’s such a thing as a tater tot festival?”

This is the question I answered over and over again when asked what my plans were for last weekend. My plans included the Cleveland edition of the Tater Tot and Craft Beer Festival.

Brad and I first learned of this event while we were patiently waiting on my mom’s testing while she was in the hospital from her heart attack. At the time, it seemed like a great diversion, so we got tickets with another couple. Once all the stress of April was over, we forgot about it for awhile and then the weekend finally arrived. Hello and Happy August! The summer is flying by.

July was another busy month in a string of busy months. Other priorities (life offline) have kept me from blogging as often as I’d like, so I figured I’d catch you all up in photos.

Fun with friends

 We visited with our good friends who live out on the East Side and I got to meet their horse, Annette the Clydesdale.

We wandered visited Ohio’s wine country with those same friends and discovered new favorites from Hundley Cellars, Niagara and Harvest Red.

“Bless You!” {Allergy Season}

We have a thing in our house with sneezes, started by Brad of course.

Sneeze 1 = “Bless you!”

Sneeze 2 = “Bless you!'”

Sneeze 3 = “Faker!”

It lightens the mood a little during allergy season. I live with mild outdoor allergies and mild food/medication allergies. Brad lives with severe outdoor allergies. We are no strangers to sneezing, but between the two of us, Brad is the one with a love/hate relationship with the outdoors. On top of allergies, he’s quick to sunburn and the bugs think he’s more delicious than anything else. I actually sent him this cartoon (from Tastefully Offensive, you’ve been warned) after a day spent working outside and being inundated with pollen

We try to make our home a safe haven from allergies in a variety of ways, including keeping shoes off inside the house and opting not to have first-floor carpet. However, it’s impossible to hide from them. Especially this time of year when the outdoors beckon.

May you be poor in misfortune, rich in blessings

May is shaping up to be a busy month. Lots of travel, weddings/anniversaries, events and such. But let me catch you up. It’s been quieter around here and I’m not apologizing! I live first and blog later.

I like the month of May and look forward to it every year. May typically marks the beginning of real spring weather in the area and a farewell to snow (generally speaking).

I look forward to this month often because it reminds me of so many milestones, the biggest of which is our wedding anniversary at the end of the month. This year is 4 years, a marginally unremarkable milestone but completely special to us. I laughed a little when I read that the modern 4th anniversary gift is appliances… seeing as we just got a new dishwasher, I think we got it covered!

Weekend Wines and Vines

Two weekends ago we hit the vineyards of NEO with our friends (more specifically the Madison/Geneva area).

We started off with lunch and tasting trays at Debonne Vineyards. The food was okay, but the wine was excellent. Brad and I had “paninis” which were more like melt-style sandwiches and they were good. Our friend Tyler had a Chicago-style hot dog and reported that it was okay. Natalie ordered a burger and it was not good. Since they were grilling it in the outdoor pavilion, we saw how they cooked it and if I’ve learned anything from Brad’s and my reality TV guilty pleasure Bar Rescue, you should not be cooking a burger under a dome the way that they did.

But the wine was the main attraction here. I discovered that even though I love blueberries, I do not like blueberry in my wine. Peach Grigio is a whole different story though! A couple of my favorites that we tasted were the Razzbery Rieseling and the Peach Tree Grigio, the River Blanc was also very good.

We went down the road a bit to the Red Eagle Distillery, which is NOT a winery, but was still pretty cool. It’s an old barn that was converted into a distillery where they distill whiskey, bourbon and vodka. The atmosphere was cool and the cocktail menu looked amazing.
