The Weekend Closet Project

A couple of weeks ago, Brad and I set to work redoing our builder-basic walk-in closet by adding a custom closet system that his parents generously gave us for our birthdays.

Before

I had the right side of the closet and part of the back wall. Although the builder rack stuck out in a way that made it impossible to hang anything close to the door, or it wouldn’t open. Brad had the shorter left side of the closet and we shared the back.

Decorating a New House for Christmas

Before we got married, I had a 3-foot Christmas tree in my room. Our first Christmas together in our apartment, we were given a hand-me-down tree from my in-laws. Then when we moved into the Pelham House we bought a bigger tree. Most of our holiday decorations were gotten for specific uses in the Pelham House, which had an expansive mantle and built-in shelves.

We have yet to put a nail in the wall since building this house and our mantle is smaller, so trying to figure out where decorations go in the new place was fun.

We put our big tree in the main family, the middle-sized tree in the formal living room and my short tree in the office loft. And scattered decorations around various places.

Here’s a brief tour:

November Notes

It’s been a quiet week at ProbablyRachel.com. I truly can’t believe that November is almost halfway over already!

Here’s what’s happening-

Travel

I attended the PRSA International Conference and Leadership Assembly over the “weekend.” I left for Atlanta on Friday afternoon, the leadership assembly happened on Saturday. The International Conference ran from Sunday through Tuesday and I got back on Tuesday night. The conference was great and I learned a ton!

While I was conferencing it up, Brad was getting on a plane for Los Angeles where the lucky man got to attend T-Mobile’s UnCarrierX event and a concert with Bruno Mars, Zedd and Lil Jon. He proceeded to send me pictures of his whirlwind tour of LA making me even more jealous that I couldn’t go with him. He officially returned last night.

Which means, we spent an entire week apart. The longest time we’ve been away from each other since before we got married. It was weird.

It’s Done!

We had our pre-settlement walk through today and our house is done!

Today is day 78 of the build.

We’re off to sign the final papers later today and the keys are ours on Friday, which is good because we’re moving in on Saturday.

The house itself is completely finished, but there are a couple of things they’ll be working on after we move in. The wet weather has delayed grading on the yard, but we won’t be planting that until spring anyway.

80 days from breaking ground to handing over keys.

Wow.

First selfie in the new house. Locked out until final walk through. #probablybuild

Build Update: Driveway, Drywall and a Dry Basement

I can’t believe I haven’t blogged all week! I also can’t believe it’s September already. September is the month that our house will be finished, it’s also the month that I get to go to Vegas for the first time and the month of my half birthday. Yesterday was also the fourth anniversary of finally moving to Cleveland after months of a grueling hour+ commute to work.

Since I know everyone is really curious about progress on our house, here’s an update!

Drywall

All of our drywall is hung and they are finishing the mudding by Monday.

People told us two things about this stage of building: 1. Things will seem to slow way down 2. The house will feel a lot smaller.

Things do seem to have slowed down, but I don’t feel like the house feels smaller, it feels more like a house to me! Brad thinks it seems smaller though.
