It’s Done!

We had our pre-settlement walk through today and our house is done!

Today is day 78 of the build.

We’re off to sign the final papers later today and the keys are ours on Friday, which is good because we’re moving in on Saturday.

The house itself is completely finished, but there are a couple of things they’ll be working on after we move in. The wet weather has delayed grading on the yard, but we won’t be planting that until spring anyway.

80 days from breaking ground to handing over keys.

Wow.

First selfie in the new house. Locked out until final walk through. #probablybuild

I’ll post some pictures after we move in.

Build Update: Driveway, Drywall and a Dry Basement

I can’t believe I haven’t blogged all week! I also can’t believe it’s September already. September is the month that our house will be finished, it’s also the month that I get to go to Vegas for the first time and the month of my half birthday. Yesterday was also the fourth anniversary of finally moving to Cleveland after months of a grueling hour+ commute to work.

Since I know everyone is really curious about progress on our house, here’s an update!

Drywall

All of our drywall is hung and they are finishing the mudding by Monday.

People told us two things about this stage of building: 1. Things will seem to slow way down 2. The house will feel a lot smaller.

Things do seem to have slowed down, but I don’t feel like the house feels smaller, it feels more like a house to me! Brad thinks it seems smaller though.

Build Update: Siding, insulation and dates

Things with our house are moving along very quickly now!

Brad met with the Guardian folks two Fridays ago to address our home high-tech home selections and mark in the house where things needed to be installed. They came in and did all the wiring on Monday. On Monday night we walked through the house and Brad discovered that they had run cat5 cable rather than the cat6 cable we paid extra for. Brad called them on it and on Tuesday they ran the right wires.

On Wednesday, we had out pre-drywall meeting, where we walked through the house and went over everything we selected again, except in the house.

On Sunday, my mom and her husband came to see our house. We were able to show them a sided, framed house. Our plumbing is in, our electrical is run, our HVAC is installed, our gas lines are in, our utilities are in, our sub floor is screwed down, the whole place is insulated and there are sheets of drywall waiting to be hung. Weekend Wrap Up: Bricklaying, Cleveland Flea & House Update

We had an interesting and fun weekend, it involved bricklaying, food trucks, flea market browsing, upcycled awesomeness and a trip to the house.

Saturday morning started with the Bricklayer 500 regionals at St. Mary’s Cement Terminal. One of my clients was involved with the event. This particular event is a speed bricklaying competition.

The masons competing were all very talented craftsmen. I got to be a little crafty myself and adhered stone on lath. Continue reading

Walking Through Walls is Easier Without a Foot in Your Mouth

I take some of what I posted on Monday back. Sure my house was a hole in the ground for quite sometime, but as I was lamenting the lack of work being done on it a team of framers was hard at work making it into a structure.

We went out of Monday night to survey the progress and found the makings of a first floor in place.

Although I was impressed with the amount of work accomplished on Monday, Tuesday was even more impressive! We went out Tuesday night and found something that more than resembles a real house. Continue reading
