The other evening Brad looked at me and said, “Do you know that when I first met you, I thought you were a total weirdo?” He followed that shortly with, “and after all these years, I know I was right.”
“Yeah, well I thought you were weird too,” I shot back.
As our 6th wedding anniversary is this weekend, it’s nice to be open about how weird we think the other person really is. Continue reading →
We did what every couple wants to do on their 9th anniversary of couplehood… we went to an oral and maxillofacial surgeon’s office for a consultation, because I have to have my wisdom teeth out… again.
Remember 3 1/2 years ago when I wrote about my totally not wise teeth? They only took out the bottom ones because the top ones didn’t look problematic. Yet.
While at the consultation Brad jokingly asked, “What would you do without me?”
It caused a good laugh, but the real answer to that question is much more serious. Without Brad, I would do nothing. Continue reading →
For our fourth anniversary, Brad and I decided to take a trip. Normally we like to cruise, but we wanted to 1.) do something different and 2.) force ourselves to relax.
Brad and a colleague were in New York visiting a client over the winter when it was extremely cold. Somehow that brought up the desire to be somewhere warm… like the Caribbean. His colleague recommended boutique hotel called Hotel Secreto (“secret hotel” if you didn’t figure out the translation) on Isla Mujeres near Cancun in Mexico. Come to find out the hotel came highly recommended by multiple people.
We found great airfare on Southwest right over our anniversary so we booked everything… before deciding to sell our house. The plan was to list our house for sale a week before vacation and then the realtor would be able to show it anytime while we were gone because by then the listing would have picked up interest. Little did we know that it would be sold by the time we left and a clock on us to get out of it. We actually looked into canceling or moving our trip with everything that was going on, but according to the cancellation policy, we would owe for it anyway. So might as well go!
I sat here looking at a blank page trying to come up with something to say about four years of marriage. And I had nothing, no profound words.
So I turned to Brad with my blogging predicament. His response was, “Well write that. Every year can’t be a milestone. It’s not that we’ve made it to four years, it’s all the things we’ve done in those years.” Continue reading →
May is shaping up to be a busy month. Lots of travel, weddings/anniversaries, events and such. But let me catch you up. It’s been quieter around here and I’m not apologizing! I live first and blog later.
I like the month of May and look forward to it every year. May typically marks the beginning of real spring weather in the area and a farewell to snow (generally speaking).
I look forward to this month often because it reminds me of so many milestones, the biggest of which is our wedding anniversary at the end of the month. This year is 4 years, a marginally unremarkable milestone but completely special to us. I laughed a little when I read that the modern 4th anniversary gift is appliances… seeing as we just got a new dishwasher, I think we got it covered!
