Friday Five Stuff

Sometimes I just look at the blank new post editor and think: I’ve got nothing.

Thankfully it’s Friday and I fall back to the five things that I want to chat briefly about. I may think I’ve got nothing, but I’ve got some stuff.

1. I must share this… I see a variation of this every morning when I leave for work. They are in the same place at the same time. After terrorizing or loving (depending on the day) my feet while I get ready for work, they retire to the duck pillow to watch me leave out the window. This is why we adopted two cats instead of one. They have each other when we aren’t home.

2. While I’m talking about cats, I noticed a new behavior pattern last night which is kind of sweet. Both cats greet whichever one of us gets home and then one (lately Holmes) of them disappears until the other person gets home. The disappearing cat is returning to the duck pillow to watch for the other human to get home. It’s also possible that I’m reading too much into random feline behavior.

3. Diabetes was kicking my butt for awhile recently. I got really aggressive with it and added a new basal program, tweaked some insulin-to-carb ratios, started being more careful about carb counting and made sure to take insulin in a timely manner (no less than 15 minutes before eating). Although I still have a few things to figure out, I had an “Am I cured?” moment yesterday when I floated between 70-80 mg/dL for several hours. With my low warning set at 75, Dexcom wasn’t happy about it, but I was pretty okay with it, especially since I ate a meal in the middle of those beautiful numbers!

4. Meet my weekend:

Those are boxes of floor tile that will be put down this weekend in the kitchen and bathroom. The kitchen and bath redo have been possibly the slowest moving home improvement projects ever. I’m so happy to see the light at the end of the tunnel. We aren’t there yet however, we still need to pick out new baseboard trim.

5. Sunday is the Super Bowl. I, of course, watch it for the commercials. I also enjoy “football food” because we don’t have it that often. Brad likes the simplest recipes too so that makes life easier for me. I sent him to work with a crock pot full of meatballs for his work Super Bowl lunch and I have a special request to make salsa con queso for the big game on Sunday. What’s your favorite “football food?”
