Friday Five: October Thanks

I’m revisiting the idea of giving thanks when things kind of suck. Not that things are bad, but there’s nothing like a week-long, nasty cold to make you miserable. Here are some things that I’m thankful for:

1. A flexible employer that allows me to still do my job while downing mugs of tea in my pajamas, at home when I’m sick.

Somehow writing and planning while sick is just easier when you can punctuate it with naps.

2. Goofy cats.

How is this comfortable?

3. Breakfast dates to look forward to after the unpleasantness of fasting bloodwork.

My endo was able to work me into the schedule next week instead of making me wait until December (yay!), so she ordered labs and I need to get them done Saturday morning. When I told Brad about this, he goes, “Okay, but I’m not going with you.” Normally I do this stuff on my own and when he went for his first-ever blood draw I went back with him. I asked him to wait in the waiting room then take me out to breakfast and apparently when he said he wasn’t going with me, he meant he wasn’t going to go back with me for the actually poking.

4. Seat heaters on cool, fall mornings.

5.The adventures that come with homeownership.

We’ve been in our house for over a year now and there have been plenty of adventures… most of which were unexpected. There may seem like there’s a never-ending to-do list for the house, but it’s nice to look around me and know that this is my home. This may seem silly to people who grew up in one house, but for someone who lived in 12 houses in the first 18 years of her life like I did, the concept of roots and your own place is pretty nice. It’s also nice to know that if I want a room to be green, it can be green… after lengthy conversations with Brad about why I feel the need to repaint.

What are you thankful for?
